Urban Grow-Labs

Hi all!

Thanks for all your hard work with teapots, seeds and nutrient mixes!

It would be good to schedule the next steps and we were hoping to be able to spend an hour with you on Monday 1st June

We are waiting for some parts to arrive for the window garden so can discuss this schedule when we next meet.

Here is an image of the seeds when we left them:

It would be great if you could post an image to this discussion of how they are doing today!

One of the main things we are focusing on right now is to look at all the materials and components we use in the growing kits and assessing how ecologically wise they are. We are between using salvaged building materials - such as pipes and plumbing conduit and using more natural 'eco' materials such as bamboo. As I am sure you will agree the complexity of assessing how green a material is can be quite perplexing..
The image below shows bamboo next to the PVC conduit.

Which would you prefer for the restaurant?

The next steps would be to transfer your seeds into small hydroponic units as pictured below:

This small bucket should be kept in the office and function as a 'plant back office' allowing seeds and plant to mature enough to be brought out and replace the window garden plants in the restaurant.

We are looking at some gourmet and specialised seeds that we can try out at the restaurant. Hopefully we can bring some on Monday!

It would be great to hear your feedback!

Best wishes
Rachel

Great news that the UV film can be removed from the window. Is it possible to organise with building maintenance to remove this ready for installation?

We would like to arrange a final installation date for the hydroponic window garden on Monday the 29th June - I know a Monday works best for the restaurant and allows enough time to finalise the design to a high spec. We also just received word that the specialist parts we ordered from France will be with us first thing next week. Which allows us time to piece the design together in our studio prior to installation. I will be sketching the installation in more detail for you tomorrow so that we can start a discussion about the method/ risk assessment.

In addition to the window garden we will need to setup a nursery as a back office where the plants (micro-greens) can be seeded and mature to a certain stage ready for transplanting into the window garden. This could work well in your meeting room on the windowsill where the plants are currently in buckets.

I would like to arrange a time to do this with all of you (Richard, Lauren & Angela) on Monday the 22nd June.

It would be good to hear what time we should start work as it may take a few hours to complete. The area will need to be kept clear so I think the earlier we can start the better.

Its great that the film crew put the video clip online - looks great!
Do you have any photos yet of the office growth and the tea pots?
Images can be uploaded here: http://www.metabolicity.com/photo

It would be great to top the teapots up with nutrient solution if the water looks low - 1-tablespoon of nutrients for 1-litre of water (then correct pH with small amount of white powder)
I can pop back to meet Richard to go through this again if you like.

On the 29th we would also like to ask a few questions for the research part of the project so it would be good if everyone is around for about a 10-15 min chat.

Please let me know your thoughts and how the schedule suits you!
