Event Description

Riding On Empty: Designing our travel infrastructure for the end of Oil

Architectural and Design scenarios. Bicycles and bike accessories and infrastructure. Talks, films, picnics and guided cycle rides.

From june 19th through to july 4th Fourth Door Research’s Cycle-Stations Project takes over the second floor of Bermondsey Sq and showcases the upgraded Riding on Empty exhibition.

Riding on Empty highlights the research and development work which has emerged from Fourth Door Research’s Cycle Station Project, from the Cycle Station prototype and evolving into a fully-fledged platform for exploring synergies between sustainable design and transport infrastructure.

Working with both major and emerging architectural practices this Cycle Station research and design is being further embedded into a range of design and infrastructure scenarios. Riding On Empty outlines core Cycle Stations themes, while also introducing a range of ideas informing the research. Principally architectural and design oriented, the exhibition also showcases further displays informed by new media, bicycle design and issues relating to sustainability and ecological understanding.

And also experimental, community and work bicycles as well as a range of cycle infrastructure and bike accessories, including cycle fashion, green design and new media.

MetaboliCity has contributed some lightweight growing structures as well as their cargo bike to the exhibition. The bike is invaluable to the project allowing materials and resources to flow between the East London growing sites.

There are also some cycle tours arranged for the 4th July, check on website here:
