SUMMARY:Reset Debate: The tension between ecology and architecture
DESCRIPTION:We will be attending Reset's debate next tuesday at the BD
 P Studios, Brewhouse Yard, London, EC1V 4LJ - and going for a drink a
fterwards if you would like to join us!\n\n\n\nDebate: The tension bet
ween ecology and architecture\nBiodiversity - our life support system
 – is all too often given a bit part role in architectural theatres:
a player who is only there to make the lead actor look good!\n\nBut ne
w movements in architecture, engineering, landscaping and built enviro
nment design understand that a focus on ecology and ecosystem services
is essential if we are to maintain human life on this planet.\n\nHow
might this affect the way we design? And why do we struggle to find wa
ys to think ecologically, even when we believe that nature should be g
iven a leading role?\n\nAs Brian Mc Donald of Natural England says,
We need to show that green infrastructure can be delivered across a r
ange of scales so that it’s actually something that’s carried into
all developments, from the smallest to the biggest.”\n\nThis evenin
g of discussion and debate focuses on the perceived tension between ec
ology and architecture and asks participants to share their own experi
ences and approaches in an interactive forum. Speakers will each prese
nt a keyprinciple or approach for 5 minutes, before the chair opening
the discussion up to participants from the floor.\n\nSpeakers:\nGary G
rant, Chartered Environmentalist and Ecologist\nCath Basilio, Sheffiel
 d City Architecture Department/Sheffield Hallam University\nDominic Co
 ath, Natural England\n\nChair:\nDusty Gedge, livingroofs.org\n\n\nAbou
t Reset:\nRESET's mission is to deliver training and support knowledge
sharing to increase resilience within our built environment, wherever
it is most needed, particularly in areas facing severe climate change
impacts, including with humanitarian and development organisations, c
ommunities and community based organisations, commercial and academic
 institutions.\nhttp://reset-development.org\n\nFor more information vi
