George Alagiah, BBC journalist, patron of the Fairtrade Foundation, and Hackney resident, will be launching this first in a series of debates on the big issues of our times, which St. Peter's Church plans to make an annual event.
Are organic, fairly traded and sustainably produced foods a luxury, or a necessity? Is GM and intensive farming the only way forward?
Is there anything left that we can eat, that isn't unhealthy, endangered, unethical, or just too expensive? Or is that a distraction? Is maintaining basic food supplies for us all actually going to become the greater global issue?
This will be followed by a discussion, chaired by George, in which speakers from local food initiatives will take part
A vision of a city that metabolizes its resources and waste to supply its inhabitants with all the nourishment they need and more.
